The Collective's documentation brings together work by several generations of researchers. The credits below record who made each finding, so you can credit the research your implementation uses. Nintendo and Hatena developed the original application and service; the community documented their formats and behaviour. [1]
| Contributor or group | Work credited in the source | Original reference |
|---|---|---|
| bricklife and mirai-iro | PPM investigation beginning close to Studio's Japanese launch. | bricklife's historical article; mirai-iro's PPM article |
| harimau_tigris and ugohammer | Early Japanese community investigation. The credits describe the ugohammer blog as no longer online and supply no surviving URL for it. | harimau_tigris archive address |
| steven and yellows8 | Additional PPM-format documentation through DSiBrew. | steven; yellows8; DSiBrew |
| JSA | Pre-closure DSi traffic captures and early investigation of the embedded web client. | Profile |
| PBSDS | PPM and web-client work, NTFT and NBF investigation, and the Hatena-tools lineage. The legacy credits link this tooling attribution to the hatena-server repository. | Profile; Historical linked repository |
| Nick Swarr | Investigation of portions of UGO menus. | Historical Bitbucket profile |
| Midmad and WDLMaster | Identifying the animation's sound codec. The source has no link for Midmad. | Sound-format discussion |
| Sudofox / Sudomemo | Investigation of web-client features. | Profile; Sudomemo |
| Jaames | Much of the documentation, metadata tags, command search and keyboard input; further completion of UGO, NBF, NPF and PPM descriptions. | Profile |
| Shutterbug2000 | Internal-program research, nds-constrain't, ugopwn and the channel-menu UGO layout. | Profile; nds-constrain't |
| Khangaroo | Resolving PPM sound-data byte-alignment problems. | Profile |
| GBATEK | The underlying DSi hardware reference used to interpret processor and device behaviour. | Hardware reference |
| JoshuaDoes | Editorial review and checks on the documentation. | Profile |
| PokeAcer | A no-SSL Studio patch used to capture authentication traffic. | Profile |
| Pokémon Ierukana and Mario Kart Wiiki | Earlier NAS and WFC protocol notes that helped decode the authentication headers. | NAS account example; MKWii server protocol |
| Sudomemo, Kaeru Team and the wider Flipnote communities | Ongoing community support for investigation, testing and documentation. | Sudomemo; Kaeru Team |
| Nintendo and Hatena | Creation of Studio and its original online community, respectively; community documentation does not transfer their authorship to a later implementation. | Product and service history |
How to credit the research
- Use the specific page or capture behind a field, rather than citing a broad project name for every claim.
- Keep a researcher's interpretation distinct from an original instruction trace or file sample.
- Retain licence notices and credit in code derived from a library; a documentation credit is not a replacement for the licence.
- Expect some old personal, forum and blog addresses to be unavailable or moved. Their inclusion records the source trail and does not assert current ownership or endorsement.
See the original Collective credits for these attributions. The guides also credit the Flipnote Decompilation Project separately when using its research into original program images. [1]
